Only in the 9th grade, Dean Collins has already proved himself a versatile comedic and dramatic performer. He had a recurring appearance
on FOX's long-running sketch comedy series MADtv. In that series he played the roll of "Ernie" in Michael McDonald's "Reading Caboose".
Collins also had a recurring role in the critically acclaimed dramatic series "Jack & Bobby". He made 11 appearances in two seasons on the
WB as "Warren Feide". His range however, is not limited to the small screen.
Collins recently appeared in the comedy feature film, "Yours, Mine and Ours". In that movie he plays "Harry", the 13-year-old son of
veteran actor Dennis Quaid's character. He is also appearing in another comedy feature film set to be released in 2006. The movie is
called "Hoot" and co-stars Luke Wilson and Logan Lerman (co-star in Jack & Bobby). It is based on a book and tells the story of a young
man who moves to Florida from Montana and fights to protect a population of endangered owls.
And just like any other 9th grader, Dean enjoys a lot more than work. In his spare time he likes to listen to his iPod, surf the 'net on
his iMac, play tennis, snowboard, play the drums and travel around the world. One thing you may not know about Collins is he is not just
an actor - he's also a film maker! He enjoys making short films, which he writes, directs, and edits. A California native, he lives with
his parents, two older brothers and a younger sister.
1. Why/how did you become an actor?
The reason I became an actor all started out because of my older brother, Nick. Nick, who is 19 right now, wanted to be an actor years ago
when he was about 12 or 13. I was younger than him (by 4 years), and I guess I just followed in his footsteps and wanted to do what he was
doing - like most younger brothers do. He then didn't really want to get into acting as much as I did, and things kind of took off from
there.
2. Are there any similarities between you and your character?
There are no similarities between my character, Mike, and me. My character is way craftier than I am in real life and much smarter in the
way he causes trouble within his family.
3. 3. What is the hardest part about being a young actor?
The hardest part of being a young actor is playing a role that is completely opposite of who you are in real life. That's always tough.
Another hard part about being a young actor is getting rejected on a role you come very close to and really want to do.
4. What do you do the most on the Internet?
Mostly, on the internet I go to a website called MySpace. I'm hooked, and I think the rest of the world is, too! I really love IMDb.
5. There are many dangers online-identity theft, viruses, predators. What dangers online most concern you and why?
Well, a lot of the time I get messages on MySpace from fans that really like some of the shows I was on, or movies I have done. Some of
the people who message me are really creepy. My friend is an actor and has had a fan threaten him on MySpace. That always freaks me out,
but I'm always really careful when it comes to that stuff.
6. 6. What advice do you have for kids concerning using the Internet and staying safe in a technological world today?
My advice to kids using the Internet would be: do not give out any personal information about yourself like where you live, or your phone
number. There are many crazy people out there who can really put you in danger.
