School’s in session! Sharpen a pencil or step up to the computer, and get
creative. Enter the i-SAFE National Bumper Sticker Design Contest, starting
Dec. 1, 2007. Design a bumper sticker with a snappy Internet safety
message. Use eye-catching images that
help get the word out about cyber safety. Do your part with art!
The 411
Each student can enter one design in the contest. The contest is open to all students! Bumper sticker designs can be hand-drawn or designed using
computer software. Here are some sample topics:
Social-Networking Safety (MySpace/Xanga/Facebook) – Students often include photos, videos, and personal identifying information on their profiles and
within their social-networking pages, putting them in great danger online. On most social-networking sites, you can even search for people based on
certain criteria (i.e. city, school, interests, or age). This can be really dangerous if it falls into the hands of the wrong person.
Piracy (Illegal Downloading) – Without being aware of the dangers and understanding the consequences of illegal copying, uploading, and downloading of
music, file-sharers open themselves up to unknown risks and legal prosecution.
Identity Theft – Identity theft (someone using your name, social-security number, or other personal information to commit fraud or engage in other
unlawful activities) is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the United States.
Cyber Bullying – Cyber bullying is using technology to tease and threaten another student.
Cyber Security – Viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and spyware can cause a computer to run slowly, improperly, or not at all, and any computer user can
receive this damaging malicious code without even knowing it.
Online Predators – Internet predators trick their prey into trusting them by “grooming” them. The ultimate goal of an Internet predator is to meet a
student face to face, and they will say and do just about anything to make that happen.
